Search Engine Optimization
There are two main types of Search Engine Optimization.
On-Page SEO- means that the site itself must be optimized to be search engine friendly.
Off-Page SEO- means that you are marketing your site on other websites such as social media, pay per click, backlinks, etc.
Within these methods these can be broken into more categories such as paid advertising and organic or free advertising. Organic listings are listed because of their content and popularity and give a long-term sustainment usually done using free advertising but can be combined with paid advertising. Paid advertising can be both temporary to drive traffic for a specific project or permanent. However with paid advertising online if you stop paying you will also start to lose your ranking online unless it is combined with an organic listing approach.
Content- Content is king online the more you update your site and add new content the more the search engines like your site.
Metadata- this is code placed in your site that tells the search engine what search words you want it to be found on.
Domain Timeframes- domain expiration dates can affect your ratings for SEO.
Pictures- must have labels because search engines can’t read picture files so these have to be labeled in text known as alt text.
Conversion Forms- you must be able to convert clicks to followers and search engines look for this in your ratings.
Real Simple Syndication (RSS)- this is for feeds for those who don’t want to give you personal information but still want to follow your site. Search engines like RSS feeds because it usually proves the site is good at providing new content.
Bookmarking- social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Delicious are great at helping your ratings.
Back Links- these are links from other sites to your site.
